"Attitude: Your Most Priceless Possession"
"Attitude is the way you
look at things mentally." The author explains that your attitude is like
a camera and you have to decide how and on what to focus. This book offers
eight methods to adjust your attitude. They are: The Flipside Technique,
Play Your Winners, Simplify! Simplify!, Insulate! Insulate!, Give Your
Positive Attitude Away, Look Better To Yourself, Accept The Physical Connection
and Clarify Your Life's Mission. They can all be incorporated or you can
choose those that most benefit you. I found that The Flipside Technique
and the Simplify! method were most beneficial for me.
The Flipside Technique
means taking a seemingly negative situation and finding the humorous side
to it. An example happened when making coffee at work once. The filter
holder fell just as the hot water came flowing out of the machine. With
coffee grounds all over the floor, all I could do was let the water run
into the glass coffee pitcher. My manager saw the "flipside". The coffee
pitcher was getting cleaned.
The Simplify method involves
a short questionaire to determine the "clutter" in your life. The clutter
could be possessions,
involvements, imbalances,
procrastinations or relationships. After determining your clutter, you
make a "to do list" to release
your clutter. I chose
to throw out lots of papers, give away clothes I no longer wear and designate
a day for laundry and
cleaning at home.
The book shows how attitude
is reflected in your personality and how it affects all of your environments.
The main point of this book is to teach us that attitude should be considered
as important as money, material possessions or relationships.
